History
For several years, we have performed at living-history museums, historic reenactments, cultural festivals, fairs, private events, gardens, schools and churches throughout our region to the delight of audiences young and old.
Our Name
Our name is a combination of the words: "Highland" (Scottish) and "Ländler" (a type of German dance, meaning "from the land")
Culture
Our repertoire includes songs and dances from Germany, Austria, Italy, Russia, Scotland, England, and North America. Historic costumes enhance the beauty of each culture represented.
Performance
Moving quickly from one interesting idea to the next, a typical performance finds our dancers portraying stamping horses, shoe-slapping woodcutters, and the moving parts of a mill. We present the humorous and the dramatic; the graceful waltzing of the Bavarian Ländler and the invigorating, high-cutting dances of the Scottish Highlands.
Achievements
The Highländlers have competed and won awards in international dancing in both youth and adult divisions.
Our Performers
Our performers have all been home-educated and are between 11 and 25 years of age. We are based in central Georgia, USA and have been performing together for several years.
Our Director
Tina Liedle spent 7 of her school-age years in Europe, where she was involved with various types of music and dance. 25 years ago, Tina began homeschooling in Denver and working to create a friendly legal climate for home education. In 1984, she began organizing classes for homeschooling families, incorporating music, dance and other cultural and historical elements. This performing group is an outgrowth of those classes.
